Weddings are always enjoyable to shoot as a photographer. It makes it that much more fun to photograph a wedding where you know the bride or groom very well. Dave is the brother of my brother-in-law so I have known him since I was 10! Dave and Taryn have one of those unique love stories that I was so excited to document. Each with three kids of their own (plus Dave’s two step-sons), the wedding brought together a new “Brady Bunch.” And during the wedding, I got to hear a little more about their history and how they actually met when they were children and were reunited as adults when their kids played for the same football team. After dating for a few years, Dave surprised Taryn with an engagement ring, assisted by all of their children. In addition to the ring, he presented her with a very special surprise.
He proposed with the kids help after dinner one night and then told me that the church, venue, photograph, videographer, and DJ were already booked for March 2017. I just needed to get my dress.
Taryn bought her dress and set to work on the only things she had to plan out, flowers and details. The wedding day rolled around and much to everyone’s dismay, it rained….all day. But we had heard that rain was very good luck, so we didn’t mind it in the slightest. We were still able to nab some amazing portraits on the couple’s beautiful deck as well as a few outside of the venue. Taryn got ready in the afternoon, surrounded by her ladies in purple and her two daughters. She held a bouquet of roses, calla lilies, scabiosa, anemones, succulents, and sweet peas, and carried a purse and handkerchief that had belonged to her great grandmother. The guys got ready at Dave’s parents house and then proceeded to St. Luke’s in Glenside for their ceremony. Breaking tradition, Taryn was escorted down the isle by her two sons while Dave’s four boys and the couple’s two daughters walked down before her. The ceremony was beautiful and after it was over, we hung around briefly to photograph some family and bridal party portraits before boarding the bus and heading to the Barn on Bridge for the reception. Once there, my assistant Joelle and I walked around the barn with the couple and photographed their portraits in the beautifully lit barn. The cocktail hour followed and then began the reception where the bridal party danced in, followed by Dave and Taryn who shared a beautiful “multi-level” first dance and then listened to speeches from the matron-of-honor and the best man. The couple opted for unique dances with their children instead of the typical father-daughter/mother-son, where Dave danced with his daughters, Nora and Kirsten, and Taryn with all her boys, AJ, Nate, Brian, Jude, Kevin, and Chris. The couple enjoyed a cake smash and then spent the rest of their party on the dance floor! Congratulations David & Taryn on your happily ever after!
A note from the Bride
My biggest surprise of the day was the fact that we had torrential rains all day and neither Dave nor I noticed all day! We were both so happy and simply enjoying everything so much that we never even noticed how bad it was raining!
A special moment & highlight of the day…
THE KIDS!! Seeing all of them have so much fun and being such a huge part of our day. We wanted to do something different for our 1st dance, so we made a bad mix and improvised from the start. As much as everyone thought it was choreographed. The last song was also something that Taryn and I really enjoy while celebrating with our families and really close friends. The song was “Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey.
Advice from the Bride
Take one day at a time. Remember the day is about you, and not anyone else. Enjoy the day, relax, and have fun!! Everything will turn out fine as long as you both be in the moment together.
